It's that exciting time of year - NCAA Basketball Tournament time. Have you noticed the tremendous amount of encouragement basketball players get? They have numerous coaches, thousands of screaming fans and enthusiastic cheerleaders at the game. Plus they have tons of support in the living rooms of die hard fans around the world. No doubt about it; basketball players get a lot of encouragement.

What encouragement are you getting at work? The same level as the basketball players? I doubt it. I've observed a tremendous number of workplaces and unfortunately, encouragement is doled out in small doses, if at all.

Three facts about Encouragement:

1. EVERYONE needs it. I've never met a person who couldn't use a little hope and confidence building at one time or another. Just because a person doesn't outwardly show signs of frustration, doubt and disappointment doesn't mean he or she isn't going through a difficult time.
2. It is EASY to give. It only takes a minute or two to let someone know that you are rooting for them and that you have confidence in their abilities. All you have to do is go to the person's workspace or phone them and let them know you are "in their court".
3. It costs nothing, yet yields OUSTANDING RESULTS. Encouragement boosts confidence, morale and job satisfaction. It engages and empowers people to produce outstanding results. Could your workplace benefit from that? Absolutely!
